When it comes to any kind of soccer tournament that Brazil’s national team plays in, you can bet they’re at least going to the finals, and chances are, be the winner. That was the case in South Beach this past weekend as Brazil beat teams from the U.S., Spain and Mexico in a variation of the sport that I had never seen before – beach soccer. The game is just as much fun to watch with plenty of action - maybe more because the field is considerably shorter and the ball stops dead in the sand, instead of rolling long distances. This means many more shots on goal and higher scoring games.
But, it being South Beach, the three-day event offered way more than beach soccer. Sexy dancers put on a great halftime show, electro-pop blared from the speakers non-stop (practically drowning out the announcer keeping score), and a bikini fashion show followed the game. Amazing athletes performing on the field and hot girls performing in the tent made this a sporting event I look forward to next year. Congratulations Brazil. Thanks for bringing this new soccer in the sand game to South Beach. How about next year you teach us how to Samba in the sand? That’s one tricky dance to learn!
