As soon as he broke out onto the electronic scene, everyone knew that there was something special about Max Vangeli. But it was his collaboration with heavyweight Steve Angello that really brought him to the forefront of the music scene. MTV hails him as "one of the most promising artists for 2011," and everyone agrees. Vangeli made his international debut in 2010, and his profile has rocketed since, with sets at some of the world most renown clubs and music festivals.
Next month he'll be teaming up with ResLive.com to present an exclusive live virtual DJ set that offers his fans a true club set as well as a chance to interact with one another. Apart from his virtual concert and slew of international dates, he's also hard at work with AN21 on his forthcoming debut artist album that's slated to be released via Size Records later this year.
Max Vangeli recently took time off of his busy schedule to chat to us about his nightlife vices including his favorite clubs stateside, where he prefers to spend an off night out, and his issues with cocky doormen.
Clubplanet: You're constantly playing some of the biggest clubs in the world. What's your favorite club stateside, and why?
Max Vangeli: I definitely have a few favorites around the states. Clubs like Pacha New York and Miami clubs are always amazing. But I would have to go with Avalon in Los Angeles. Their setup rocks and curtains really make for a great entrance.
Clubplanet: Everyone knows you as one of the top big-room DJs to come out of the U.S. When it's a night off, do you prefer a big-room, small lounge, or hole in the wall bar, and why?
Max Vangeli: Definitely some sort of a hole in the wall bar, where I can either sing karaoke or get in a fight with some locals.
Clubplanet: After a long set every DJ's pretty ravenous. If there was one late-nite bite destination you could take with you on tour, what would that be and why?
Max Vangeli: I always travel with protein bars, they get me all the energy I need at the last minute. But if I would have to pick a place, hot-dog late night stands in San Francisco are amazing even though not too good on the body.
Clubplanet: There's nothing like a good cocktail to celebrate a successful night in the booth. What's your poison for such an occasion?
Max Vangeli: I love taking shots of chilled vodka or Jager, but for a drink, I always take vodka lime soda. That's the best way to avoid a huge hangover.
Clubplanet: Everyone's had an issue or two with a doorman every now and then. Have you ever had a run-in with a cocky doorman?
Max Vangeli: Always. I've been known as the guy who ends up dealing with "trouble bouncers." Even to the point where I am being strangled. Its mainly because of my attitude towards things I guess, and I hate dealing with cocky people in general.
