New York duo, Ratatat, has been mixing synth sounds with ripping guitar riffs since 2001 but it wasn’t until their debut album Ratatat released in 2004 and their following Ratatat Remixes Vol 1 released the same year that they were able to secure high profile gigs that would forever change the face of the “rock star.” With their own mix of electronic music and rock, Ratatat garnered the attention of other experimental mega-stars giving them the opportunity to tour with The Faint, The Killers, Bjork and the kings of them all, Daft Punk.
Fast forward to present day and Ratatat is out with a new album called LP4, first single "Drugs" and a world tour to call their own. On Sunday night Ratatat rocked a sold out show at the House of Blues in San Diego, playing classics like Lex, Wildcat and Shempi and new songs like "Drugs" and "Party with Children." Mike Stroud and Evan Mast brought their usually rock and roll performance style to the show, both taking a moment to bang on the drums during "Wildcat," but it was Stroud with his on-the-floor gyrating and suggestive manhandling of his guitar that stole the night.
If you missed Sunday night’s show you still have time to see Ratatat at Club Nokia tonight. Attendance is highly suggested.
