Bravo, Lavo!

Hot as lava and moving just as quickly, Lavo has moved to the top as the latest “see and be seen” club in NYC. Having opened in the space on East 58th between Madison and Park, which was once home to Au Bar (one of the most legendary clubs in New York history), Lavo had rather large shoes to fill. Au Bar was a private club that sold membership cards; however, no one cold buy one after the first year because they were immediately sold out. Having purchased a card early, I was one of the lucky ones who sailed through the entrance quickly every night. But many of the high and mighty and famous could not get in regularly because the club had a small capacity, which created a huge crowd outside every night of gorgeous and wealthy jet-setters literally begging to get in. In that respect, Au Bar was like a mini Studio 54. In fact, it was common for Au Bar patrons to start off at the small club and then finish the evening at Studio. That being said, Lavo would have to be legendary to follow in those footsteps. Having attended the pre-opening grand opening, I can tell you it will be! The entire space has been given an extreme makeover, creating an ultra-sexy hot spot that will make the disco history books. The owners deserve a standing ovation.
