Best Places to Impress a Date in NYC

If you’re trying to impress a date, there are two obvious routes you could follow: dish out a massive amount of cash on a fancy dinner or walk right through the velvet ropes at one of the most exclusive lounges or nightclubs in New York City. But if you don’t have cash to blow on wining and dining your date, and you aren’t on a first name basis with every doorman in the city, there are still places in NYC that will impress the best girls in this town. So trim that beard, spray on some cologne (but go easy now) and head out to one of these New York City bars, restaurants, clubs, or lounges, and get that girl to fall for you in no time.

Best Place to Impress a Date in NYC: SPiN New York
48 East 23rd St | New York, NY 10010

Whether you lack the ability to keep a conversation rolling, or you just want to show your date how unique and fun you can be, a night out at SPiN will earn you points with any gal you’re trying to woo. This ping-pong bar, partially owned by Susan Sarandon, is the perfect place to impress your date (especially if you’ve got some mean skills in the table-tennis department). Grab a beer, grab a table, and instead of staring awkwardly at each other from across an overpriced meal, let loose and see what happens over a game of ping-pong. The vibe is active, friendly, and fun, so if all that candle-lit mushy romance is a little too much for a first date, a bar like SPiN can provide the perfect alternative.

Best Place to Impress a Date in NYC: La Esquina
106 Kenmare St | New York, NY 10011

If you’ve been keeping up with our articles on Clubplanet, you should know by now that La Esquina is one of our favorite spots in New York City for tacos, tequila, and now, dates. First of all, this place has that clandestine, mysterious appeal to it… since you have to travel down a narrow stairway, through a kitchen, and down a candle-lit corridor just to get there. Bringing a date here will show her that you know what’s good in New York City, even if it isn’t in plain sight. Besides the “hidden gem” factor, La Esquina boasts a delicious menu, an endless list of tequilas (ranging in both age and price) and an essential first-date vibe (cozy and romantic while still bursting with vibrant, stylish energy). If you’re looking to impress your date, La Esquina should do the trick. If not, a couple shots of White Oak aged tequila will. Click here to read more about La Esquina.

Best Place to Impress a Date in NYC: Los Feliz
109 Ludlow St | New York, NY 10002

Like La Esquina, and many other impressive date spots, Los Feliz has the allure of a hidden treasure and the versatility to cater to any girl in any mood. With three levels—the Taqueria, the Cobble Room, and the Lounge—Los Feliz combines restaurant, bar and lounge in an environment that boasts the quintessential cool vibe of the LES. Whether you want to grab a mellow dinner followed by a couple shots from the venue’s impressive tequila list (featuring more than 150 makes) or head downstairs to dance the night away alongside NYC’s young and stylish, any date will be impressed with this venue selection. And if you’re feeling romantic, we can think of a few dark corners perfect for that first kiss.

Best Place to Impress a Date in NYC: Abe & Arthur’s/SL
409 W 14th St | New York, NY 10014

Alright, so we’re breaking a few rules with this one—it’s a bit pricy and the door is tough—but if you make a reservation, come on a weeknight, and don’t act a fool, we don’t think you’ll have a problem. Dinner at Abe & Arthur’s followed by a drink at SL is a great way to impress that girl who likes to go out. Abe & Arthur’s is trendy, tasty and not too tough on the wallet (compared to some other upscale restaurants) and at a place that attracts a young, stylish crowd, your date will think you know your stuff if you bring her here. After the meal, see how you feel, and if your girl likes to party (which many of us do), take her to the club downstairs for an after-dinner cocktail. The place is small and tasteful enough that your date won’t feel like you brought her to some sweaty mega-club, but with DJs rotating the hottest dance music nightly, you can still steal a dance (or a kiss, if you’re lucky). But remember, if your dance moves look like Chris Kattan’s in Night at the Roxbury, you’ll impress your date more if you end the night after dinner.

Best Place to Impress a Date in NYC: BEast
171 East Broadway | New York, NY 10002

Where do you take the girl who’s been wined and dined at all of the well-known hotspots in New York City? A place that often goes under the radar, but is still packed with some of the best looking people in NYC, and requires a buzzer for entry. Presenting BEast: the bar owned by Ron Castellano (Santos Party House) that’s located just below Broadway East. As a toned-down version of the Abe & Arthur’s/SL combo listed above, a date would be impressed with a meal at Broadway East followed by an after-dinner drink at BEast. If dinner isn’t on the menu, impress your date with the mere fact that you know this underground, brick-laden layer exists. If she isn’t impressed by your choice of venue, or the tomato martini, well, then you’re probably better off finding a new girl to take out.
