Exclusive Chelsea nightclub,
Marquee, has filed a lawsuit against AMC Cinemas, alleging that AMC’s plans to open a Marquee restaurant in one of their Las Vegas movie theaters is an infringement on the nightclub's trademark.
Marquee (the club) claims that the low-quality food and beverages that the AMC restaurant will serve do not match the “chic, upscale appearance, style, service and clientele of a trend-setting, stand-alone nightclub.”
It’s confusing for us here at CP to understand how a random hot-dog joint attached to a random movie theater all the way across the country will in any way affect the NYC nightspot. First of all, what are the chances that an AMC movie-goer in Vegas has ever even seen the outside of
Marquee, the NYC nightclub? Even if someone has been to both, it's doubtful that he or she would confuse the two (especially after chowing down on a hotdog at one, and mingling with NYC socialites at the other).
We want to meet the guy who walks into
Marquee in Chelsea and says, "Hey, what the F! I wanted to get some nachos with that yellow fake cheese and then go see
Despicable Me!"
And on a final note... doesn’t a "marquee" have more to do with a movie theater than a nightclub, anyway? Come on people, it’s understandable to try and protect your company’s good name, but if you ask us,
Marquee has gone a little overboard with this one. What do you guys think?
