Screw speakeasys being the club trend of the moment in New York City; after the closings of Aspen, Duvet, and now club Touch, it seems that the newest movement popping up in the nightlife industry is the harsh sound of some of our favorite venues’ doors slamming shut.
According to the New York Post, Touch was temporarily shut down by the New York State Liquor Authority after receiving numerous violations since December 2008. The owner of Touch, Muhamet Nikezi, told the New York Post that the charges against his venue were unjust and that they were, “being persecuted simply for being a nightclub.”
Touch has been a popular mainstay in the New York City nightlife scene for a few years, hosting Fashion Week events, premiere parties, and even the Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, himself.
Touch’s owner, Nikezi, says he will fight the SLA’s charges and, hopefully, he will be able to open the doors of Touch once again. However, if the allegations against Touch are in fact true, then it will further prove that there is no acceptance of abuse and neglect in the nightlife industry, period.
