Los Angeles might not have as many small and creative bars as New York does, but we hold our own on fancy weekly parties. The best way to get Angelinos well dressed and out of the house is to offer an evening that is special from beginning to end. From crafted cocktails for 35 cents to burlesque shows that will make you blush, if you look hard enough (or let us do the work) you can find some truly top fancy parties in Los Angeles.
Top Fancy Party in LA: Friday Nights @ Rumba Room
1000 Universal Studios Boulevard (Suite 208)
Universal City, CA 91608
Located in the active Universal Citywalk, Friday Nights at Rumba Room are always packed affairs. If you are looking for the club experience with a fancier vibe, Rumba Room’s DJs mix the best of club hits, Mash-Ups, Reggaeton and Latin grooves. Friday nights at this top fancy party attract an older crowd of stylish Angelinos whose days of clubbing haven’t completely gone to the wind, but they are definitively less frequent. No baggy jeans and hats here; upscale clothing is a must, so think Vegas attire.
Top Fancy Party in LA: Thursdays @ The Edison
108 W 2nd Street
Los Angeles, CA 90012
What better way to say “I feel sophisticated and fancy” than spending a Thursday evening in a historic building? The Edison in downtown Los Angeles is the first building in the city to generate its own electricity. To honor the golden age, The Edison is offering pre-prohibition priced drinks. From 5-7p.m. enjoy their weekly signature cocktail for just 35 cents. On Thursdays, Big Willies Burlesque and DJ Jonny & The Nu Jazz Project switch off to entertain the hip crowd with fancy jazz and burlesque. Upscale and “cool” attire is encouraged, everyone else there will be dressed well.
Top Fancy Party in LA: Forty Deuce Fridays @ Café Was
1521 N Vine Street
Hollywood, CA 90028
Before the Pussy Cat Dolls used burlesque to make them “unique”, there was Ivan Kane’s Forty Deuce. Unfortunately Forty Deuce has been closed for over a year but his dancers still need somewhere to go to shimmy and shake, in a non "Sunset Boulevard stripper" sort of way. That perfect place is Ivan Kane’s Café Was. Every Friday “the original burlesque show to which all others are compared” rile up the crowd in this intimate and relaxed setting. The mood is old-world fancy, but how could it not be with a rotating piano?
