While the nightlife scene in LA changes hands faster than a Las Vegas poker table, there are some places that are legendary fixtures. The Key Club on Sunset Boulevard is one of those places. But now the tide has changed and the Key Club is closing its doors... for now.
Keith Pressman, the President of KC, is searching for a new partner with hopes of reopening the club in February. This speaks volumes for the music and nightlife climate in Los Angeles, that has felt the downswing of the economy and a time where even the most dedicated fans think twice before purchasing a concert ticket and attendance is down by 50%.
The Knitting Factory in Hollywood closed some months ago and since then clubs are even more aware of the lowered traffic.
Before the Key Club was open, Gazzarri's stood in its place as a popular rock n' roll dive bar on the stip. In 1996 Billboard Live, the precursor to the Key Club joined Whiskey a Go-Go, The Roxy and The Viper Room as popular music venues on western Sunset Blvd.
So don’t worry, even though you can't head to the Key Club tonight for a show just wait until the new year and, like the economy, the Key Club will bounce back better than ever.
