Last Sunday night the infamous BET Awards were under way with highly anticipated performances by some of the best hip hop and R&B artists around. But the highlight of the night may have come from Janet Jackson when she took the podium and said a few words paying tribute to her recently deceased brother Michael Jackson.
“My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was too painful,” Jackson said. “To you, Michael is an icon, to us, Michael is family. He will forever live in all of our hearts.” This message lead to a memorable performance of “I’ll Be There,” by the show’s host, Jamie Foxx, and R&B sensation Ne-Yo. The song was one of Michael’s biggest hits when he was a part of the Jackson 5.
