The Best Happy Hour Bars in Los Angeles

Looking for some recreational drinking in LA but not willing to splurge on $15 cocktails? It’s not easy to find affordable booze in the city of the rich and famous. Luckily, standing in defense of your democratic right to have a drink, is Clubplanet. So have confidence in our determination to spare your buck and check out our guide to some of the best happy hours under the hills.

Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles:
The Edison
108 W 2nd St. #101
Los Angeles, CA 90012

The Edison’s 35-cent martini takes the cake for the cheapest cocktail on our list. They (sadly) disappeared for a bit, but now they are back by popular demand since The Edison won LA’s Downtown News award for the best happy hour! Every Wednesday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., you can score the 35-cent cocktail, then sit back, relax, and revel in the fact that, uh, you're only paying 35 cents for a martini! The Edison happy hour also features dishes like the vegetable panini and chicken wings, which go for a measly $5, or you can stop by for "Dog Days" and score a beer, a hotdog and rings for just $10!

Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles:
Cabo Cantina
11829 Wilshire Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90025

Ever been on Spring Break in Cabo? At Cabo Cantina in Los Angeles, you’ll get just that vibe (and just that drunk) if you take advantage of their two-for-one happy hour special from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. every day. Margaritas, rum and coke, name your drink, and you’ll be double fisting just like you did back in your Spring Break college years. Check out the Venice location right on the beach, which boasts the same specials. Either the Wilshire Boulevard or Venice location of Cabo Cantina makes an excellent bar to enjoy cheap happy hour specials.

Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles:
Copa d'Oro
217 Broadway
Santa Monica, CA 90401

Okay, so the poor economy does have one upside: the “happy depression” happy hour at Copa d’Oro in Santa Monica. From 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday (and all night on Mondays) you can enjoy $5 classic cocktails and $5 beers and wines while noshing on a $4-6 panini at this casual, comfortable bar. Dress up and relax on one of the banquettes or couches, or don flip flops and a t-shirt at the long bar. Either way, you are sure to have a cheap happy hour at this notoriously generous Los Angeles bar.

Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles:
Lazy Ox Canteen
241 S San Pedro St.
Los Angeles, CA 90012

This Little Tokyo canteen may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think “happy hour” but with $4 select beers, $4 glasses of red or white wine and sangria, you should probably reconsider it. The happy hour runs Monday – Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and includes $5 small plates on top of the drink specials for those of us who need a little help making it to dinner.

Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles:
The Woods
1533 N. La Brea Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90028

If we didn’t see it, we would never have believed that The Woods, with all its ultra-hip coolness, is located in a strip mall. One thing is sure—forget shopping and head to this swanky venue covered entirely in dark wood and artistically arranged stone tiles (the wall). The attention-grabbing light fixtures look like pieces of antlers glued together and the wall behind the bar is illuminated with closely lined up white Christmas lights, which simply have to bring to mind Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. Enjoy the outstanding happy hour of $3 well drinks, beers and wines, and $4 martinis every day from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles:
Barney’s Beanery
8447 Santa Monica Blvd.
West Hollywood, CA 90069

This laid-back, diner-like watering hole might look average, but it offers an assortment of 132 imported and domestic beers. Not bad for a place with a $2.75 special on domestic beers ($3 import beers) and $3.75 single-shot well drinks. Their happy hour, and one of the best in Los Angeles, lasts three hours, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., so stop by and grab a beer while filling your belly with half-priced appetizers. Barney’s Beanery is also the spot for shooting some pool after work.

Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles:
Ciudad
445 S. Figueroa Street
Los Angeles, CA 90071

The bright, geometrically-organized, modernist interior of Ciudad offers a spacious restaurant divided into intimate (but not claustrophobic) booths, while the sleek bar with cubical-shaped  black leather bar stools and cubical-shaped fixtures hanging above it serves up special happy hour deals on food and cocktails... some of the best in Los Angeles, in fact! From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday you can snack on $3 tacos, while you sip on 1/2-off mojitos, margaritas, and more! (Trust us, the drinks go down much easier when they are half the price!) Paired with a new patio, Ciudad is definitely worthy of making our list of best happy hours in Los Angeles.

Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles:
Big Wangs
801 S. Grand Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90017

Big Wangs came up with a barn-inspired watering hole and dirt-cheap specials in Downtown LA, which is why it’s on our list of best happy hours in Los Angeles. There are two other locations (in Hollywood and North Hollywood) but this one takes the cake for the best happy hour specials of the three. From 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, snack on half-off wings and appetizers while you sip on your choice of $3 coronas, $4 wells, $5 calls, $4 house wine or a $3 wheel of beer. Plus (you're going to love this), the bar features a late night happy hour from 10 p.m. - midnight, seven nights a week, featuring the same specials... which you can double up on for just $2! Besides these outstanding week-long specials, there are specials throughout the week, including pint night on Thursday which features $3 pints from 3-close, and "pizza and a pitcher" Mondays where you can get a free one-topping pizza with a pitcher of beer. Check out their website to see the full list of weekly specials.

Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles:
Patrick Molloy’s
50 Pier Ave.
Hermosa Beach, CA 90254

There’s something disagreeable in spotting a leprechaun-decorated Irish pub on a sun-drenched street studded with palm trees, but, trust us, the tanned dudes have the same need for a good pint as anybody else. Patrick Molloy’s offers a laid-back atmosphere of an Irish-pub-meets-sports-bar, with a good grub menu and half-priced drinks (that's ALL liquor, wine and beer to be clear) during the happy hour (3 p.m. - 8 p.m.). Patrick Molloy's also lists a ton of cheap appetizers on their menu, some as low as $3! The combination of an Irish pub and one of the best happy hours in LA, puts them on our list.

*Summer Happy Hour Bonus:
Sunset Strip’s Mass Happy Hour

With over 20 bars, restaurants, and even stores on the Strop offering simultaneous happy hour discounts, you really can’t go wrong (unless, however you do your drinking before your shopping). Every Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. this summer you can indulge on happy hour drinks like the $4 Sunset cocktail, $5 snacks like Talesai’s filet mignon satay or Mirabelle’s oysters, and tax-free shopping at boutiques along the 1.6-mile strip! We definitely suggest checking this one out.
