Q&A Sessions: Kinky

Q&A Sessions: Kinky

It’s clear that los chicos de Kinky have mucho talento because in the nine years since they won best unsigned band at the 2000 Latin American Music Conference, they haven’t stopped touring or releasing amazing dance-rock albums. All of that success can be easily attributed to their dynamic sound that includes electronica and rock, which is all intertwined with Latin grooves and Spanglish lyrics. Ulises Lozano (keyboards), Carlos Chairez (lead guitar), Omar Góngora (drums), Cesar Pliego (bass), and frontman Gilberto Cerezo are currently showing off their musical talents to fans while on tour, traveling everywhere from their home country in Mexico, to New York City.  NocheLatina had the chance to spend a few minutes with Gil and find out all the answers you’ve ever wanted to know about the Kinky master.

nocheLatina: What is the best part about being on tour?

Gil: The shows!

nocheLatina: We know you live in LA, but don’t you miss Mexico?

Gil: Of course I miss Mexico, but I carry it everywhere I go, so living here in Los Angeles is enjoyable as well.

nocheLatina: What do you think about the success your band has had since the release of your self-titled debut album?

Gil: I don’t like to think about it that much. I just enjoy what I do, and that’s the definition of success for me.

nocheLatina: Who is the funniest member of Kinky?

Gil: All of them except me.

nocheLatina: Who gets the most attention from girls (or boys)?

Gil: The cowboy hat (Cesar) always gets a lot of attention.

nocheLatina: Since you are always busy working, what do you do on your time off?

Gil:
Travel.

nocheLatina: What are your favorite websites?

Gil: Cliptip and some art pages.

nocheLatina: What are your favorite party cities?

Gil: NY, Bogotá, Mexico City, and Buenos Aires.

nocheLatina: If you could do a duet with anyone, who would it be?

Gil: With you!

nocheLatina: Will Ely Guerra appear on your next album?

Gil: She will be in all of my albums, even if she doesn’t sing.

nocheLatina: Is there a new sound that you feel Kinky hasn't done yet?

Gil: Millions.

nocheLatina: If you could name a Latin star who is a real “Coqueta” who would it be?

Gil: Most Latin people are flirts from birth.

nocheLatina: What excites you the most?

Gil: Performing songs live.

nocheLatina: If your clothes went missing, which member of Kinky would you ask to let you borrow some?

Gil: Carlos.

nocheLatina: What is the best festival Kinky has played at?

Gil: The Fuji Festival in Japan.

nocheLatina: You have really good dance moves. Who are your dancing inspirations?

Gil: Segio el Bailador, Michael Jackson, and John Travolta.

nocheLatina: Tell me the best joke you've got.

Gil: I always forget jokes.
