We can't tell if this story is obvious or terrifying: A 21-year old woman consumed four vodka and Red Bull cocktails before collapsing on the dance floor at an English nightclub. She was pronounced dead when paramedics reached her. Doctors note that several factors lead to this bizarre death: the woman was diagnosed with epilepsy, and the Red Bull apparently trigged a rare heart condition known as QT Syndrome. This isn't the first known heart attack-by-energy drink, and it won't be the last as long as clubgoers everywhere are downing that potion by the gallon to keep up on the Hiro dancefloor.
The dangers of marketing alcohol as pick-me-ups has drawn concern recently, as lawmakers recently outlawed Sparks, the beloved taurine-and-gasoline beverage of choice among hipsters and cokeheads everywhere. And true, even CP is a little guilty of encouraging the occasional vodka-and-liquid-crack tonic, but even we know better than to chug four of those babies.
Moral of the story: Red Bull might give you wings, but apparently it gives some people freakin' heart attacks. Sigh. Just one more thing we have to drink responsibly.
