Diddy's Million Dollar Offer

If you got it, flaunt it, but in the case of mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs, show it off for a good cause.

Diddy announced in a video featured on his official website that he, along with Ciroc Ultra Premium Vodka, will grant New York City $1 million.  What's the catch?  The iconic New Year's Eve ball expected to drop at midnight in Times Square must be transformed blue in tribute to Ciroc Vodka's iconic sapphire-hued stone.  Diddy promises that if the ball were to be changed in time for the festivities, the million dollar check will go directly to Mayor Michael Bloomberg, which can be used for various needy charities.  As many consider 2009 to be a year of change, what better way than to give the city some much needed cash?

"As the 'Official Vodka of New Year's Eve,' it's only fitting that we take over New York, the most iconic New Year's city in the world," Diddy explains to the press. "I'm going to give every adult in America a taste of what it's like to enjoy a sophisticated celebration with Diddy, and what better time than while ringing in the New Year."  Many may see his offer as an obvious publicity stunt, especially when the New Year's Eve ball has been preplanned for months in advanced.  However, given the history of Ciroc's blue stone image, the tribute seems fitting.  The stone traces back to the "pastel" plant that once flourished in France.  Its dye was used for painting and clothing during the 15th and 16th centuries and was considered a symbol of wealth.  The dye later earned the phrase "Pays de Cocagne," meaning "the land of plenty."  The famous rapper from Harlem also believes that the ball transformed into the stone would be his special way of wishing New York a fruitful New Year.

Will Bloomberg accept Diddy offer just for the check?  We highly doubt it, but perhaps it will encourage others to believe that 2009 will indeed be a more prosperous year.  Then again, Combs could also just donate the check to the city, right?

Wow I didn't know Diddy could sell out more
At least cut the check to a charitable foundation, not a billionaire. Throw money at it! Things will change! Endorse the company that endorses me! Yeah! Change! Weak, Diddy! Even for you!

Diddy you're such a tool!
You just refuse to be cool, sincere, or out of the spotlight, huh? You're a sellout even for a politician-rip-off-artist-talent-thief-sellout! I hereby deem you D-Pity forever! God I'd rather be anyone than you! Have some self-respect, "New Yorker"! Byatch!

Ummm NO!
As much as I like P Diddy, Ciroc, and the idea of a nice check awarded to NYC, we as new Yorkers should not take advantage of such financial power within our means. many New Yorkers don't have the means to do such a thing and this type of stunt can be viewed as some old school mob tactic. If p Diddy would like to donate his money to the new Yorkers, then just do it. Attempting to change tradition should not be the way to get a donation. America has few traditions as is, let's not taint what we do have with tactics not needed for the greater good. I know P Diddy has done things for NYC, so it should not be a problem to do it again without changing tradition.
