Principal and founder of the Bloc Group, we caught-up with nightlife power player Jordan Harris at Tenjune to get his take on personal style and nightlife fashion.
Clubplanet: Where are you from?
Jordan Harris: Born and raised in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Went to school up North at Cornell in Ithaca and briefly lived on South Beach before settling back in the city.
CP: Can you tell us about your day job?
Jordan Harris: My long-time friend Matthew Isaacs and I started a communication company – Bloc Group. We do event production, strategic marketing and nightlife promotions for the fashion, art and entertainment worlds. My job is day and night. Our office on Madison Square Park runs on full for ten hours a day. The day job consists of much organization and preparation for all of our events. What you see at night wouldn’t exist without the daily grind.
CP: With a schedule like that you must aim to dress for comfort. Can you give us some insight into your style?
Jordan Harris: During the day at the office, it’s a comfortable pair of jeans, a colorful polo shirt, and some nice sneakers. By night, a comfortable pair of jeans, a colorful…oops, I guess it’s much the same.
CP: Is dressing a form of expression for you? What makes you like a piece of clothing?
Jordan Harris: Different, fun, unique colors and patterns.
CP: How often do you go shopping?
Jordan Harris: When I see something that appeals to me, I buy it.
CP: Any treasured piece of clothing?
Jordan Harris: A t-shirt of a panda eating a cupcake. It’s magical.
CP: How long did it take you to get ready tonight?
Jordan Harris: About 15 minutes…I have learned to be lower-maintenance over the years.
CP: What trends do you wish would die already?
Jordan Harris: Ed Hardy. Faux-hawks. T-shirts of pandas eating cupcakes.
CP: What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever seen at a club?
Jordan Harris: A panda eating a cupcake.
CP: As someone who works in the nightlife industry, any tips for what girls and guys should wear if they’re looking to get into one of the NYC hotspots?
Jordan Harris: Everyone should simply dress in their own unique way. A person should look comfortable in their own skin and roll up to the door with some swagger. That’s what I like to see.
CP: Favorite drink?
Jordan Harris: Orange juice.
CP: Fill in the blank. If you weren’t here, you’d be ...
Jordan Harris: …at the office.
CP: Favorite place to eat at the end of the night and favorite dish?
Jordan Harris: The Downstairs Diner on Spring & Broadway. The mini-burgers and fries are an instant classic.
