After trading in its Union-Square digs for a more polished location in the West Village, this Parisian-inspired bistro manages to capture the effortlessly chic vibe of the French with a certain je ne sais quoi. Perhaps it could be found in the understated elegance of the décor, punctuated by caramel leather banquettes, French photographs hanging on the pale yellow walls, and colorful bejeweled chandeliers dangling from a stacked ceiling over the circular mahogany wood bar. Or maybe it's the live jazz music sessions that get fingers snapping on weekend nights.
One thing's for sure, it's that they don't call it "Steak Frites" for nothing: the eponymous dish is sliced thin and served au poivre with a generous helping of crisp golden fries, and complemented well with a glass of vin noir from the list of French and Californian bottles (there's also a roster of artisan European brews on tap, like Leffe Blonde Ale). A private wine room accommodates parties of up to ten people, but the space mainly draws locals looking to unwind over a simple dinner and a drink, without a side of gimmick, pretense or trend du jour.
