Teatro Las Vegas

The coming of the New Year has brought with it an old Vegas favorite. Teatro Eurobar is back with a brand new space, hoping to fill the upscale void within the afterhours market. When the club first opened at the MGM Grand in 2004, it was one of the first Vegas venues to realize that club-goers were hungry for something offering an atmospheric middle between the town’s trashy strip clubs and swank VIP party spots. Featuring marquee dancers who combined classic burlesque styles with modern go-go attitude, Teatro pioneered a sexy-but-sophisticated vibe that is reflected in current Vegas venues as diverse as Tangerine, CatHouse, and the Pussycat Dolls Lounge, as well as in non-Vegas clubs like Les Deux Los Angeles and Tenjune New York.

Despite attracting a dedicated following, MGM abandoned Teatro Eurobar after a brief run, opting for a more conservative alternative when they morphed the space into the slick cigar-and-champagne lounge Rouge.

In the two-and-a-half years since Teatro Eurobar closed its doors, the Vegas nightlife scene hasn’t slowed for a second, with the sexy-yet-sophisticated trend clearly evident from small lounges like Tabu Ultra-Lounge and Noir Bar to large mega-clubs like LAX, Jet Nightclub and Tryst.

But the veterans behind Teatro thought nowhere in Vegas quite replicated the concept behind Teatro, so when a prime space came open at the corner of Harmon and Las Vegas Boulevard, across from the new City Center, a management team came together to bring back the old guard, reinventing the club as an exclusive afterhours venue.

The vibe at Teatro, which threw its four-day grand opening party on New Year’s weekend, is very similar to that of the old Teatro, with sexy lighting and a sleek and sultry design chockfull of deep-set reds, chromes and black. Many of the same dancers, DJs, bartenders and staff will be returning as well, although this time they’re dancing, spinning and serving after the rest of the Strip’s spots have emptied out.

Teatro isn’t the first club to realize Vegas partiers aren’t ready for the night to end at 2 a.m. – both the giant, strip-side Empire Ballroom, and Drai’s, in the basement of Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall and Saloon (formerly the Barbary Coast) – regularly attract capacity crowds with parties that last until sunrise.

But Teatro aims to bring an upscale, exclusive scene that encourages the V.I.P set to stay up until dawn. “Afterhours is something that has been around in Vegas, but not in this style,” says Pedi Amiri, Teatro’s Director of Operations. “It is going to be very exclusive.”

With a cozy capacity of just 400, Teatro is much smaller than the 1,500-person Empire Ballroom, and offers a more intimate experience than the winding, multi-room layout of Drai’s.

The club has commissioned FBP Group, who built the multi-floor sound system at TAO Beach, to bring in a state-of-the-art sound setup.

The sound system got quite a workout during Teatro’s grand opening weekend. Teatro has recruited Frederico Franchi, the Italian artist whose infectious dance loop “Cream” is a number one club hit in Europe, to make his stateside debut.

In addition, Teatro plans to act as a home base for nightlife industry professionals, aiming to attract the post-work shift from the town’s hottest bars and clubs.  Pretolesi and co-owner Brian Kip already run popular industry nights through their company Showcase Events, and plan to bring a similar scene to Teatro, with industry night parties on Tuesdays.
