New York City

Stereo - CLOSED
After one patron lost his life outside the Stereo last week, the West Chelsea club just couldn’t get itself back on its feet, and was shuttered soon after. Blaming the “hip hop crowd” that usually congregates on Sundays and Mondays, owners Mike Satsky and Barry Mullineaux contend that their celeb regulars aren’t as trigger happy.

1OAK
The latest club from impresarios Richie Akiva and Scott Sartiano has (finally) opened.  Sort of.  With many crying wolf of the hotspot’s looong-awaited launch, 1JOAK, ahem, 1OAK threw open its doors to a select model and A-list crowd with less than notable fanfare.

Suzie Wong’s
Formerly Pre:Post, the John “JE” Englebert resto-club found a new face and new name this New Year’s Eve. Cloaked in red hues and sultry décor, the 4000sf space houses geisha waitresses who cater to your gastronomical whims.

Death & Co – In Limbo
The open-then-closed-then-open-again speakeasy is back on the chopping block, this time it’s awaiting a liquor license from the SLA.  Within the four-month grace period, patrons can still enjoy their sinfully mixed drinks, provided that you don’t mind the occasional NYPD inspection.

PM – CLOSED?
Well, almost everyone is announcing the death of PM, so we will, too.  Eater reported  that the MePa club was bought out by Adam Hock of Pure Las Vegas and Hawaiian Tropic Zone in Midtown.

Mansion – Coming Soon
As reported last year, the Opium Group is expanding beyond its SoBe nabe. Goodbye Crobar/Mezmor, hello Mansion NYC.

Forum
New Year’s Eve saw the opening of Forum, formerly POP, in Union Square—an ancient Roman-themed boite decked out with Corinthian columns, white stone walls and gold leaf detailing.  No word on whether this 3500sf space is worth the trip back in time.

Kiss and Fly
Formerly AER, Kiss and Fly held not one, not two, but FOUR preview parties—how Tantric.

Los Angeles

Privilege – CLOSED
Yep, the uber-hotspot has called it quits, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t go out with a bang.  On closing night, mourning patrons got to express their sorrow by spray painting and the walls and defacing the property.  Nice!

Las Vegas

The Bank
After six years on the circuit, Light at the Bellagio finally called it quits, making way for a new kind of nightclub.  Opened New Year’s Eve, The Bank is a sanctuary for all things precious.  Multi-tiered levels, elegant VIP booths and a glass-encased dance floor line the 6600sf space, creating the perfect backdrop for an intimate evening.

Privé
Miami’s The Opium Group is at it again with Privé/The Living Room, their first foray in Las Vegas. Taking up residence on the mezzanine level of The Planet Hollywood hotel, the 12,000 square foot club and adjacent 3,000 square foot lounge, which through mood, lighting and sound will transition into a complimentary piece of Privé, mark the beginning of what may become grounds for the Group's next empire.

Teatro
The coming of the New Year has brought with it an old Vegas favorite. Teatro Eurobar is back with a brand new space, hoping to fill the upscale void within the afterhours market. The vibe at Teatro is very similar to that of the old Teatro, with sexy lighting and a sleek and sultry design chockfull of deep-set reds, chromes and black.

Poetry (formerly OPM)
A lyricist’s lounge in more ways than one, Poetry morphed from the Asian-inspired OPM to a poet’s haven, complete with walls and music filled with rhythm and rhyme.  As you move throughout the club, watch as 18th century poetry progresses into lyrics from Tupac Shakur and other contemporary bards.

Noir Bar
Here comes the newly minted kid sister to LAX Las Vegas.  With a private entrance and reservations only, Noir Bar is not unlike other chic Prohibition-era speakeasies. After entering through a non-descript door and walking down a long narrow hall, you’ll find a jewel of bar awaiting you, decked in rich leathers and Swarovski crystals.

CatHouse
The increasingly fine line between ultra-classy and ultra-trashy just got a little more blurred. Building on the current cultural obsession with retro burlesque shows, CatHouse is a modern reimagining of a nineteenth century French bordello, complete with a slightly creepy voyeuristic theme, complemented by sultry performances from the scantily clad staff.

40/40 Club

Jay-Z officially resigned as the head of Def Jam to oversee his chain of 40/40 nightlubs full time.  We’re hoping this is another fake—who the hell wants to dance on 24K gold floors and pay $800 general admission?

Light – CLOSED
Well, of course.  They had to make room for The Bank (see above).

SIN Strip Club – CLOSED
Now the location of Penthouse.
