Best Phoenix Bars for Superbowl XLII

You’ve checked your mailbox. You’ve cleaned out your e-mail. You’ve listened to every voicemail. But somehow—for whatever crazy reason—you can’t find your invitation to the Maxim Superbowl party, Diddy’s Superbowl party, or even Tommy Lee’s post-Superbowl party. It’s okay. It happens to the best of us. And fear not. Even if you’re not invited to the private-list galas, on the weekend of February 1st, the entire city of Phoenix will be thumping with celebs and models, players and playas.

Need somewhere to go? Check out these 10 Phoenix hotspots.

Phoenix bars: Dance Clubs:

1) nextDOOR: Featuring specialty nights, like Old School Mondays and Techno Tuesdays, nexDOOR is located at 901 N. 4th Street in downtown Phoenix.  Boasting outdoor seating/drinking/dancing and weekly guest DJs, the venue offers a spectacular view of the downtown skyline and a funky crowd.  The drinks are pricey but strong, and the dance club is connects to Fate, the swank Asian restaurant. Over the 360-degree bar, there is a giant overhang resembling either an umbrella or a mushroom of some sort, which gives the hip, upscale club unique character. Odds of spotting some random NFL special teams player are at least 17%.

2) Burn Nightclub: Host to an array of celebrities, this ever-shifting club offers diverse experiences for different nights of the week.  Wednesdays they are electro-punk/glam.80s themed, while on Thursdays they are hip-hop and dance, and Fridays you’ll find House. They even offer Sunday brunch with dollar mimosas.  (Not really football appropriate, but still.) Meatheads beware: Saturdays are known for gay night, featuring chiseled and tanned go-go dancers in tighty whities.

3) Glam:  Don’t be fooled by the outside.  Though it looks like a small dive in the middle of a strip mall, Glam is a huge hangout for the Phoenix hipster crowd and features a light up disco dance floor.  Featuring an inexpensive cover, as well as dirt cheap, potent drinks, Glam is most popular on Friday nights, when Fauxshow productions is host to a wild, Indie dance party.  Notorious for having an eclectic (if not odd) crowd and no cover on Saturday nights, the bartenders are fun and attentive and you’ll definitely meet some interesting characters.

4) Club Palazzo:  Unless you’re into the whole Industrial/Goth scene, you might want to steer clear of Palazzo on Friday nights, as it turns into Tranzylvania- Arizona's largest Gothic/Industrial club.  Although it does feature a state of the art sound system, two full bars, one of which is on the club's large back patio, a catwalk-style balcony that overlooks the dance floor and a “famous” Midnight erotic black-light show, the music is all Gothic, Industrial, and synthpop and the people are rather freaky looking to be honest.  If Latin Dancing, reggaeton and hip hop are more your speed, check out Palazzo on Saturday nights where its Club Downtown is home to two notably large dance floors, a stage, big-screen TVs, a great sound system, and state of the art lighting.

Phoenix Bars: Sports bars:  (If you plan to watch the big game, get there waaaaaay early – at least 2 hours in advance.)bar6

5) Jackson’s on 3rd:  A dance club, sports bar, live music venue and lounge all tucked into one, Jackson’s on 3rd is decorated with murals of local sports stars and sports paraphernalia.  Aside from being a great place to go with the guys after the game, it is also home to Club 245 where the ladies can dance the night away.  Known for hot beer tub girls, 28 beers on tap and a bar menu, they have a mean happy hour and are often host to live bands, especially after games.

6) Hazelwood’s First Place Sports Grill:  Hazelwood’s is basically heaven for men.  Aside from having fifteen flat screen high def televisions displaying every kind of sport imaginable, they have live music, poker tournaments and a monthly mini-beer fest.  How can you go wrong?  If that’s not enough to get the testosterone pumping, play their golf, bowling and hunting video games or pool.  This is probably not the best place to bring your girlfriend, but stop by with the guys, try one of the 16 beers on tap, listen to the eclectic Jukebox and enjoy a killer Happy Hour.

7) Alice Cooper’s Town Sports Bar & Grill:  Thankfully, the sports bar is in no way as grim looking or disheveled as the man it is named after.  Whether you’re into hair bands or not, you will have a fun time at Alice Cooper’s.  Complete with live music, massive video screens, an outdoor stage and employees donning Cooper’s eye makeup, the bar boasts fabulous margaritas and allows indoor smoking.

8) Bikini Lounge:  With its original 1940’s décor still intact, Bikini Lounge is one of the last Phoenix tiki bars in existence.  Considering it’s a tiki bar, you won’t find the fancy, fruity cocktails you’d expect.  Though they serve your basic American beers, there are walls made of bamboo and a thatched ceiling, but that’s as “tiki” as they get.  Along with a pool table and jukebox, there is friendly service and an interesting array of hipsters, artists, and some random old people.

9) Chez Nous Cocktail Lounge:  A landmark in Phoenix history since it was established in 1963, Chez Nous is definitely not for those with an empty wallet.  Known to be dimly lit, intimate and full of hot waitresses, there is an artificial waterfall inside and a vast selection of pricey martinis.

10)  Rhythm Room: Known for being a blues lounge, Rhythm Room will be hosting a Super Bowl weekend kickoff party, as well as a Pre-Superbowl party.  They are known for being host to great live performances and for serving delicious bbq.
