CULTURE

Shepard Fairey: E Pluribus Venom
DUMBO Installation Space
Thurs, 7-10pm
81 Front St @ Washington (BK)

Obey’s wheatpasting wall poet punches through the “monolithic American machine” with a new collection of stencil, collage, and screenprint pieces sticking it to the homogenous system.  Be prepared to get filled with rage, laughter and gallery grade wine—which may or may not inspire urination on nearby municipal buildings.

FOOD

Chocolate and Wine Tasting Party
49 Grove
Fri, 7pm
49 Grove St (Between Bleecker and 7th Ave)
212-727-1100
$100

Think of it as the perfect seal-the-deal third date. It’s not cheap. Then again, good wine’s not supposed to be. The hundred bucks gets you, well, a tasting of chocolate and wine. We’re skeptical about the “light appetizers,” so grab some sustenance beforehand and for God’s sake, don’t ask for any FU*KING MERLOT!!!”

SHOPPING

Patti Rose Presents – Oscar de la Renta

Thurs, 9AM-4PM
124 E 58th St
Summer may have just begun but in the eyes of the fashion world it’s already next fall. Take advantage with up to 75% off the Oscar de la Renta spring collection, as well as items from Prada, Bill Blass, and Roberto Cavalli. But come prepared. Fashionistas aren’t the calmest of folk.

FUN

Coney Island Mermaid Parade and Ball

Friday, 10pm & Sat, 2PM
Surf Ave, Coney Island
Free

Freaks and mermaids will be the guests of honor at this annual parade but the real show will be watching drunken hipsters try to get down with the Coney Island crews. The parade is free but bring cash for rides like the Cyclone, which will likely take its last ride at the end of this summer.

CLUB

Toshi's Swedish Party
Domino Sugar Factory  - Williamsburg
Fri, 8pm
289 Kent Ave

$50 guys, $30 girls  (includes open bar)
We don’t really get it either. This cartoonish little guy Toshi—who looks like he’d giggle like the Pillsbury Dough Boy if you poke his belly—somehow throws world-class parties and lures the hottest models this side of the Playboy Mansion. Oh. And they’re only wearing body-paint. With Sweedish hip-hop dynamo Timbuktu.

MUSIC

JellyNYC Presents: Superchunk and Oakley Hall
McCarren Park Pool
Sun 2pm
Lorimer St
Between Driggs and Bayard

The abandoned McCarren Park Pool is a literal cesspool of hipster matter—ranging anywhere from knee-high socks to dodgeball to melancholic indie rock. Slip n’ slide, beer guzzle, and pigeon-toe slouch to your heart’s content while Superchunk and Oakley Hall riff and wail from above.
