Ever look around the club and just feel totally out of place because you’re wearing those Giuseppe Zanotti wedges you love and all the other women have on flip flops and wifebeaters? Are you frustrated that the doorman couldn’t appreciate your designer t-shirt from Atrium but the guy with the sleeveless flannel got in? Perhaps you’re the avant garde of club fashion and no one else has caught up. Don’t fret, there are some clubs on the West Side where the fashion is as fierce and powerful as the drinks they serve.
Marquee
289 Tenth Avenue
646-473-0202
What they’re wearing: Ladies- belted flowing summer dresses, funky platforms, subtle make-up, silk and animal (in one). Fellas- the sleekest jeans from Europe, semi-pointed toe shoes.
Why it’s chic: Belts are the thing right now and they’re even more funky on this season’s signature item—the flowing summer dress. And although we didn’t really get a glimpse of his feet in the movie, we could only imagine that the oh-so stylish Christian Collinsworth was wearing some semi pointed Cole Haan’s in “The Devil Wears Prada.” Both are great for the club, work, or everyday chic.
Pink Elephant
527 W 27th Street
212-463-0000
What they’re wearing: silk camisoles, knee length shorts, wedges, designer purses, simple gold necklaces.
Why it’s chic: Names like Dior, Fendi and Coach are timeless. These classic designs never go out of style because they never stop being fabulous. Paired with the ’06 must have new take on shorts and wedges, the designer purse makes any woman stand out at even The Pink Elephant, which is often frequented by celebrities.
Hiro
371 W16th Street
212-242-4300
What they’re wearing: Ladies- Throwback to the 80’s like big eclectic belts with freestyle ankle boots and vintage pleated dresses. Fellas--slacks paired Chuck Taylors, embroidered summer jackets, vests with light scarves, soft leather loafers.
Why it’s chic: If you’re going to wear a jacket in the summer, it better have something interesting to say. A tailored vest with a cool summer scarf is the cat’s meow for the season. Who better to walk with that gentleman than a woman whose style is as daring as his? The 80’s are back (the good 80’s of course) with a vengeance and the ladies at Hiro are doing it right. Ankle boots are a great alternative to wedges this summer. And pleated dresses can go from daytime wardrobe to nightlife showstopper with the right accessories.
Earth
116 Tenth Ave
212-337-0016
What they’re wearing: Cowboy boots with summer dresses, polka dot peep toe pumps, short shorts with flowy tops, skinny jeans with long shirts, short denim with cute flats (I think I spotted a pair of Sigerson Morrison’s).
Why it’s chic: Flats are hot right now, with dresses, jeans, and even leggings (if you dare). Pairing a flowy top with skinny jeans and topping that off with a pair of soft suede SM’s is not only comfortable for the club, but it’s super stylish.
