For the first time since New York City's iconic nightclub Sullivan Room
was forced to shut down last November, club owner Sergei Skylarenko,
is throwing a ”Family Reunion" tonight for the community. Everyone is invited to come out to support Sullivan Room and everything it stood for. Music will be provided by, of course, Sergei Skylarenko
with Grass Is Greener
, Samsara Brothers, Rob Keith
and James Halpin–
so expect proper house music all night long!
The first official Sullivan Room Family Reunion will take place at the Tribeca Grand Hotel
(entrance at 288 Church St.) starting at 10PM tonight Aug. 2. AK
, Sully's infamous doorman, who was well-known for welcoming everyone who came through Sully's doors, treating them like family, will be back at his post tonight at the door! Serge is very excited about the event and says, "It will be an epic night with lots of Family members coming out of the woodwork for this event!"
The culturally cherished landmark provided a lifetime of memories, and for many, was their "home away from home." The club was not just a venue, but more of an escape for clubbers and DJs alike. It was a place to dance, a rabbit hole to get lost in - not a place to go for the sake of being seen. Sullivan Room was forced to close its doors for good due to unfortunate circumstances set forth by the landlord and the City of New York. Sully certainly was a relic, one of the last of its kind, after NY nightlife saw the closing of Limelight, Palladium, Tunnel, Twilo, and Wetlands to name a few.
The Greenwich Village underground institution operated for over a decade and helped put many local DJs on the map– Adam Beyer, Carl Craig, Christian Smith, Danny Howells, DJ Sneak, Funk D'Void, Green Velvet, Jeff Mills, Joris Voorn, Josh Wink, Loco Dice, Nic Fanciulli, Richie Hawtin, The Martinez Brothers, and countless others.
