To celebrate the upcoming release of his new double album, “Neon Future”, Dim Mak Records boss and Grammy-nominated electronic musician Steve Aoki has announced a special show at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden.
It’s been awhile since EDM’s party king released his last studio album Wonderland in 2012. He’s dropped an onslaught of singles including Boneless, and Can't Stop the Swag alongside one of Hardstyle’s break-out artists, Coone, and wrapped up 2013 with his huge Aokify America Tour, playing nearly 300 shows last year.
Aoki is not slowing down any time soon. Yesterday, he confirmed the details of his forthcoming guest-heavy double album. The album is about an imagined future characterized by technological advancements.
"When I think of the dance world, I think of how it's a colorful world. That, along with my fascination with futurism defined the concept of my new album, Neon Future," says Aoki.
Set to drop August 12 on Dim Mak/Ultra Music, the first half of the double album features collaborations with the likes of Fall Out Boy, Empire of the Sun, will.i.am, Flux Pavilion, Bonnie McKee and Machine Gun Kelly. Lead single Rage the Night Away features guest rapper Waka Flocka Flame. The #1 Hype Machine track can be heard below.
Fans can expect the follow-up LP, Neon Future II, out in early 2015. ”I see the future in a more of a utopian sense, built through technology, music and color. These concepts became the driving force for the creation of my first double album,” he says.
To celebrate, Aoki will also throw his first headlining show and album release party at NYC’s Madison Square Garden on August 16, following in the footsteps of dance music "Greats" Armin van Buuren, Swedish House Mafia and Above & Beyond. “We’re going to turn this place upside down and make a statement– it’s an experience beyond a show for me. It’s a place where I can be myself,” Aoki said. Tickets are set to go on sale May 9 at 12:00 pm EST through his website.
Leading up to the release of the album, Aoki will do a tour run that includes main stage sets at Mysteryland over Memorial Day Weekend and Spring Awakening in Chicago, as well as residency dates at Hakkasan in Las Vegas. For the full tour schedule, see below.
