What you need to know: The Festival List  

Now that the holidays are over, it's time to start thinking "festival season." It will be here before you know it and festival organizers are throwing lineups and dates at you more or less every day. Here are 2014's major dance music festivals happening across the United States and what you need to know, including all available information. Club Planet will of course update you on any breaking lineup/ticket/festival information. 

Kicking off the outdoor music festival season, we have SXSW and the ginormous Ultra Music Festival. 

SXSW - South By South West

When: March 11th-16th 

Where: Austin, TX, spread across the city 

What: Basically the fashion week of music plus a fusion of technology, entertainment, and all-things relevant - free parties are during the day; showcases, which require a SXSW badge, at night, both unofficial and official SXSW events, house parties, free bar shows and everything in between. The schedule has been (for the most part) posted  start making your schedule now and RSVP to all the events you'd want to attend. 

Showcasing artists: Annie Mac, Big Freedia, Ryan Hemsworth, The Hood Internet, Gareth Emery, Congorock, Mobb Deep, Neon Hitch, Talib Kweli, London Grammar and hundreds more

Ultra Music Festival (UMF)

What: 100,000+ attend, all ages, 3-day event  

When: March 28th-30th

Where:  Downtown Miami, FL - Bayfront Park 

Tickets: $399.95 3-day GA pass + $90.05 service fees, VIP tickets are sold out

Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival

When: April 11th-13th and April 18th-20th

Where:  Indio, CA, camping available

Tickets: Tickets for both weekends are sold out (sold out in less than 3 hours of going on sale) 

Other things to note: The festival is all ages but campers must be 18+. Camping opens Thursday 9:00AM; Venue gates open at 11:00AM each day and the festival usually ends around 12:30am-ish. 

The best to see: Fat Boy Slim, Flume, Girl Talk, Disclosure, OutKast, Adventure Club, Solomun  

What: The most popular way to experience Coachella is to camp on the polo grounds. All onsite camping areas are located on lush beautiful grass fields adjacent to the festival performance area.

MoogFest 2014

a five-day festival dedicated to the synthesis of technology, art and music

When: April 23rd-27th 

Where: Asheville, NC

Lineup: Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Dan Deacon, Laurie Anderson (doing her one-woman live show "The Language of the Future"), Darkstar, Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks, the Gaslamp Killer, Le1f, Chaz Bundick side project Les Sins, RJD2, Wolf Eyes, Soul Clap, Art Department, Green Velvet, Slow Hands, Sasha, NRP, Escort, Adult, Bottin, Lapalux, Kaytranada, Mark Farina, Mike Simonetti, Nick Monaco, Shigeto, and Two Fresh. More than 70 additional artists will be added to the lineup in the coming weeks.

Moogfest 2014 will also host nightly music showcases curated by Warp Records, DFA, Fool's Gold, Ghostly International, No. 19 Music's Social Experiment, RVNG, Intl., Driftless Recordings, Crew Love, AFROPUNK, Detroit's Movement Festival, North Carolina's Hopscotch Festival, and Austin's Switched On.

What: a three-day music and arts camping festival, 18+

When: April 25th - 27th

Where: Rome, Georgia, new 5000-acre Kingston Downs site

Tickets: Three-day weekend tickets start at $205 (with camping) and a variety of ticket packages are available for CounterPoint 2014, including 3-Day GA Tickets ($224), 3 levels of VIP Packages, Luxury Camping Options (Glamping), Travel Packages (inclusive of lodging and day-to-day transport to and from the festival site) and parking passes. Hangout Music Festival 2014

When: May 16th-18th 

Where: On the beautiful Gulf Shores of Alabama

What: Held annually in the Netherlands, Mysteryland is the oldest dance festival in Holland and is making an appearance in the US for the first time ever. The festival offers its guests a creative journey, combining music with theatre, movies, interactive installation art, street performers and spectacular shows at bizarre decorated stages.

When: Memorial Day Weekend, May 23rd-26th 

Where: Bethel Woods  

Why: 21+ festival

Movement Electronic Music Festival

Where: Detroit, MI

The festival takes place inside Hart Plaza - Detroit's iconic riverfront park - and features: five technologically-rich outdoor stages; more than 100 artists; free Wi-Fi access on the grounds; a posh VIP setting located behind the main stage; dozens of official after parties; an interactive technology center featuring the hottest gear in the industry; and several art displays to stimulate the senses.  

When:  May 24th-26th

Tickets: 3-day pass $110.00 + $10.80 service fee (yes this is for a three-day pass).

Electric Daisy Carnival 2014

The experience has expanded to Denver CO (1 Day), Dallas TX (1 Day), Orlando FL (2 Days), Puerto Rico (1 Day), New York (2 Days) , Chicago (1 Day), and now the LA location has been moved to Las Vegas, NV (3 Days). In 2010 a record 185,000+ people were in attendance at EDC Los Angeles making it the largest electronic dance music festival in North America. 


Where: East Rutherford, NJ

When: May 24th-25th

EDC Las Vegas

When: Friday June 20th-Sunday June 22nd, from duck tip dawn

Governors Ball

Firefly Music Festival

What really makes this festival: cool features like a hammock hangout, "the thicket" - a silent disco nestled in a wooded glen, and beautiful lighting and visual displays 

When: June 19th-22nd  

Where: Dover, Delaware at The Woodlands at Dover International Speedway

Tickets go on sale January 20th at noon EST. Early bird GA 4-day pass $249. Once the Early Bird price tier of $249 is sold out, the price will move to the Advance price tier of $279. When the Advance price tier is sold out, the price will move to the Regular price tier of $299. VIP passes are priced at $699 and up and are available now. 


Electric Forest

When: June 26th-29th 

Where: Rothbury, Michigan at the Double JJ Ranch, camping festival   

Why: with no exaggeration at all, the most well produced and artistically inspired area…ever seen at a music festival" (Magnetic Magazine). Camp Bisco 2014

When: July 10th-12th 

What: Camping festival held annually in the summer in NY

Where: the Indian Lookout Country Club in Albany, New York

TomorrowWorld 2014

Who:  TBA, last year featured almost 300 artists

When: September 26-27-28, 2014 


Pre-Registration for tickets will begin on Wednesday January 22, 2014 

General On-Sale will begin on Saturday February 22, 2014

Where: Chattahoochee Hills, GA  

Why: TomorrowWorld is a 3-day festival (and 5-day camping experience) known for innovative and immersive experiences with mind-blowing décor, enchanting acts and animation, A-class camping, eccentric VIP areas and gourmet food. TomorrowWorld 2013 was the first European festival of its scale in the US and the first to set a minimum age of 21. 


Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival
