Behind The Helmets: A Documentary About Daft Punk's Famous Headgear

We love Daft Punk here at ClubplanetHQ. Despite being one of the biggest electronic acts in the world--who were behind one of this year's biggest hits, "Get Lucky,"--the French duo, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, have managed to stay out of the limelight, and keeping a very low profile from the public. In fact, they have done such an incredibly good job at appearing in public almost exclusively in their distinctive helmets, that the helmets are as much a part of Daft Punk as the music that they produce, and are a key element of their image.

So where did the idea of the helmets come from and what was the thinking behind them? Well, now we can find out. Daft Punk have paired up with popular French magazine M Le Monde, and brought out a short documentary, all about the creation of their signature and iconic ornamental helmets. Below is the video that captures the evolution of the two helmets, from original concepts to fully-light-up suits, captured by world famous Peter Lindbergh. Although it isn't a long film--just running at just about 5 mins--it still is a fascinating watch, that demonstrates just how much effort goes into the duo concealing their identities and keeping up with the Daft Punk image.
