Calvin Harris Calls Out Clubber For Calling Him A Sell Out
by Mikey Lavery
It was all happening at LIV in Miami last night, as Calvin Harris was making his special guest Labor day Weekend appearance at the famous South Beach nightspot. The multiaward winning, record breaking Scottish DJ, who had just made the number one spot on the Forbes DJ Rich List, stopped the music after only fifteen minutes of his set to bring attention to a female "fan" who was obviously catching his attention, and not in the good way.
Calvin interacted with the patron, calling her out for allegedly calling him a sell out. We don't know what happened in the minutes leading up to the confrontation, but the video below shows Calvin's meltdown. He finishes the exchange by saying, “Why do you come to a fucking Calvin Harris show where Calvin Harris is DJing and don’t want to hear a fucking Calvin Harris record you DUMB FUCKING BITCH.” He then had the girl ejected and finished his set without a smile or communicating any further with anyone.
Okay, so here's my problem with this. Yes, the girl was being a pain in ass. Why pay all that money for a ticket (unless she was "on the list"), to see a DJ who you don't like? Or to take it further, why shout abuse at him which was obviously enough to make him angry enough to stop playing his records? Who do you think you are, interrupting a DJ during his set to insult him? That alone is enough to get you thrown out.
However, Calvin Harris should have dealt with it much better than he did. He makes in excess of $40 MILLION a year doing what he loves, and what so many other wish they could do. He plays to hundreds of thousands of fans across the world every year, while living the life of a rockstar. Surely he can take a bit of flack? Don't give the person annoying you, a stage to respond or further their abuse. Any DJ will tell you this is an absolute no-no as an artist. And why didn't he ask security to deal with it, like other DJs would have done? What he did in communicating with her, was lower himself to the girl's level and the end result was the biggest DJ in the world a bad mood, playing to a club of people who payed to see a "Calvin Harris show,' but instead got a motionless cardboard cutout of a DJ with little to no interaction with the crowd.
Furthermore, calling someone a "bitch," is pretty much as tacky and rude as you can get. Calling them a "DUMB FUCKING BITCH" takes it to a whole new level. You're better than that Calvin. Poor show.
