Swedish House Mafia Take Over The Empire State Building

Today the Swedish House Mafia hit yet another milestone in their careers. For the next five nights, Steve Angello, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso will be taking New York City by storm while on the North American leg of their "One Last Tour". Since it was announced that SHM would be making their way to New York City's Barclays Center and the legendary Madison Square Garden (for a second time), electronic music enthusiasts have been in a frenzy for tickets to catch the three Swedish DJs all together for one final time.
After four dates were announced for the beginning of March, only one of which will be held at Madison Square Garden, the unexpected super-storm Hurricane Sandy shook the entire city and the tri-state area. To give back to the city they love, Swedish House Mafia announced a 5th performance in New York City at the Hammerstein Ballroom. The event, entitled the Black Tie Rave, auditioned off tickets to raise as much money for Hurricane Sandy relief as well as the Save the Children foundation. With special guests Pete Tong and Carl Kennedy joining for the evening, the dress code for the event is expressed through the title. Unlike your average Swedish House Mafia event, everyone will be required to dress in evening gowns and suits.
Just a little after 1pm today, Steve Angello, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso arrived in the lobby of the Empire State Building. Axwell, born Axel Christofer Hedfors, gave a quick speech to the shutterbugs and journalists in the pit, telling us us that this is his first time at the New York landmark. He gushed at how much of an honor it is for them to be accepted by the city of New York in such a way, expressing how proud each of them feel. After lighting up the miniature replica of the building, the photo ops continues as both Axwell and Steve Angello brought out their children to share in their fathers momentous occasion.
Tonight the festivities kick off for the boys as they head to the Black Tie Rave at Hammerstein Ballroom. Tomorrow night, Friday March 1st, the three will take over Madison Square Garden followed by three consecutive nights in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Be sure check out our full gallery of photos from the lighting at Empire State Building.
