ClubPlanet presents: Movement 2012 Detroit After Party Guide

ClubPlanet presents: Movement 2012 Detroit After Party Guide

We all know that even though we’ve spent nine hours listening to music on blast, we just need another nine more.  Like any good festival, there are the after parties to look forward to carry on the magic.  We’ve combed through the pretty extensive list of what is good out there and have come out with the following list.

Friday

Elektricity presents Sharam + Chris Lake
Elektricity is the Detroit Metro’s new hot spot.  With a roster of top notch EDM artists booked every Friday, Elektricity has its finger on the pulse.  Their recent list of acts include Markus Schulz, Sander Kleinenberg, and Pleasurekraft.  For the night before Movement they’re bringing in Sharam with Chris Lake.  Some may remember Sharam from the days of Deep Dish, where he played with Dubfire.  While the two may have separated, Sharam continues to blaze his own trail with a foot on each side of the fence - underground and mainstream.  Paired with Chris Lake, who knows where the night will go.

Life and Death Vision Quest – Official Movement Preparty
While Detroit may be known for its techno, a lot of deep house producers have come from there as well.  What better way to celebrate that aspect with Visionquest crew (who hails from Detroit themselves) and their friends.  Matt Tolfrey and Clockwork will be joining Life and Death for their first live performance.

Saturday

Day 1 of Movement Festival in Hart Plaza

Point Blank Online Presents Dirtybird Detroit
Claude von Stroke is no stranger to Detroit.  Although his label is based out in San Francisco, he’s coming back and giving back to his home town the gift of a good party that only his label can bring.   It’s called Dirtybird because of the simple drawing of a bird Claude von Stroke did as a child and the label is known for the free parties in the park that it threw in San Francisco.  Being brought to the table is the Dirtybird talent that everyone loves to hear like Justin Martin, Eats Everything, and J Phlip.  Head on over to the party that changed the landscape of San Francisco electronic music.

REACT Detroit presents James Zabiela, opening set by YOS
If you’re not a fan of Dirtybird minimal, there is none other than James Zabiela.  Like Sasha, Zabiela is changing the landscape of electronic music. Skilled as he is mixing as he is with producing, Zabiela’s sounds and style have the strong sense of originality.  It comes as no wonder that Sasha chose to sign him to his label.  YOS, a local gem in producing and DJing, will be warming up the decks for Zabiela with some amazing tech house, including his own productions which have been always, on point.

Sunday

Day 2 of Movement Festival

REACT Detroit & Liaison Artists present RARE FORM
While React is presenting a myriad of parties throughout the week, RARE Form stands out as a gem.  This line up can be characterized as a quarter of the Movement line up itself.  Maya Jane Coles, Maceo Plex, Eats Everything, and New York’s own Wolf + Lamb is just naming a few.  Deep house is the name of the game and React is not messing around.  This will be THE afterparty for Sunday night at the Waterfalls Ultra Lounge just a block away from the Renaissance Center.  If that wasn’t convincing enough, here is the full lineup: Maya Jane Coles, Maceo Plex, Soul Clap, Magda, Wolf + Lamb, dOP (live), Eats Everything, Thugfucker, Konrad Black, Deetron, Three, Tanner Ross, Public Lover (live), Slow Hands, Pillowtalk (live), Dave Aju, Safeword (live), Nikola Baytala, Brian Bejarano, Willis Halmton, YOS, Funk Shui, and Dabura.  Now that’s good reason enough to go.

Voyage Royale IV
Sometimes you have got to speak truth.  So do DJs Danny Tenaglia and DJ Sneak, but they speak their truth with music.  With them on this boat ride, they are joined by duo Art Department to take this ship’s passengers on a house journey.  DJ Sneak raised with the real deal, brings back the flare of Chicago house in his sets, with impressive basslines that cut to soulful classic house style vocals that only a true Chicagoan can bring.  Up on top deck will be Danny Tenaglia who has recently declared his “resignation” from DJing.  Be sure to catch him on this boat ride, who knows when he will be DJing next.  To these three, music is the answer to all our problems.

Monday
Day 3 of Movement Festival

Paxahau Movement Official After Party with Marco Carola
Marco Corola sets are...well Marco Carola sets.  No one has ever left complaining, only wanting more.  Born and bred in Italy, home to some of the best underground techno artists many of which are still not well known, Marco Carola has been raising the bar when it comes to techno sets.  It is the only appropriate way to finish off the festival weekend in the home of techno.
