Live from the Sirius XM Lounge: Day 1

Live from the Sirius XM Lounge: Day 1

SXM - Arty don't looked so shocked! After all, it's daytime and you're too young to drink - eat something!
Every year Sirius XM hosts a VIP lounge with an all star cast of live DJ sets and all star artist interviews. EDM has much to thank with all of the great contributions Sirius XM has made - and it shows in the amount of love that comes through these doors every year. Clubpanet was live from the lounge all day today and here’s what we have to report...

The broadcasts run from 12 noon - 4 pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during WMC week. Nicky Romero was slated to kick things off. But. As it is Winter Music Conference, both time and rules are suspended. Thankfully, Nicky’s delays were solved by Sirius native Liquid Todd’s sweet DJ beats. He kicked the party off and passed the decks off to Romero upon Little Nicky’s arrival. Rock and roll.

The rumors are true: Nicky’s a wild one. Romero rocked out with both of his recent David Guetta collaborations, “Wild One” (SIA later) and then, “Metropolis,” a track that was premiered by another Sirius XM lounge attendee, Pete Tong, on his Friday night BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix Radio show.

Basically, this lounge is the equivalent of fashion week for the EDM world. The best and the brightest in the DJ world show up and it’s fun - real fun, ya heard. While Nicky Romero was rocking the decks, Above and Beyond were chillin’ in the VIP with Arty who looks like he must either have a tremendously brilliant fake ID, or a ridiculous amount of stock in Noxema. After Romero's sweet and condensed set, Gabriel and Dresden hopped on the decks and played an absurd set filled with mashups and notable faves. They mixed up Axwell’s “One Look” with Kings of Leon’s “Sex on Fire.” This was when we obviously died and went to EDM heaven. After that, they featured brand new spins on current faves such as “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers and the fabulous “Somebody that I used to Know” by Gotye.

Miss Nine was rocking and rolling in the crowd while celebrity dance music host Buster Cox was chasing around DJs for his own set of interviews. After G&D, R3hab almost missed his 2 pm set time due to an overrun Mtv interview which he shared with fellow Dutchman, Nicky Romero. Fortunately, R3hab hopped on the decks quasi-punctually and immediately sent his love out to the room full of beach ravers with his Swanky Tunes collaboration, “Sending My Love.” It was later declared by majority rule that R3hab gave the sickest set of the day. Plus, he’s super hot. In the midst of the R3hab maness, Clubplanet had to take a bathroom break and who was there to guard the unlockable door? None other than Ferry Corsten. “Don’t worry, I’m wearing a black t-shirt,” he assured us. Talk about intimidating!

In the midst of R3hab's set, Adrian Lux showed up for interviews around the same time that Skrillex’s touring DJ,12th Planet, eclipsed the party for his own Sirius talks. In Lux’s honor, R3hab dropped his remix of Lex’s “Fire.” It was hot. Adrian Lux was subsequently joined on the interview hotseat by fellow countrymen, Avicii, Axwell, and Ingrosso. I’m not gonna lie, Axwell and Ingrosso smelled real good when they showed up - tweet them and ask for cologne tips.

After R3hab’s set, the fountain of youth poster-child Arty hopped on the decks and rocked out with his predominantly non-vocal bangers. Morgan Page and Austin Leeds waited patiently for their interview slots while Erick Morillo strolled through to the Mtv bungaloo with his new Sympho Nympho group, which includes Harry “Choo Choo” Romero and Jose Nunez. Former Miami Heat basketball player-turned DJ, the typical trajectory, Rony Seikely, hopped on the decks and played till this part of the party nearly cleared out.

This party may not have had a physical red carpet but Clubplanet will be the first to declare: it was pretty fierce.
